The Placement Cell plays a crucial role in locating job and internship opportunities for Under Graduates and Post Graduates during the campus placement by keeping in touch with reputed firms and industrial establishments. It operates round the year to facilitate contacts between companies and graduates. The number of students placed through the campus interviews is continuously rising. On invitation, many reputed industries visit the institute to conduct interviews.
The Placement Cell organizes career guidance programs for all the students starting from the first year. The cell arranges training programs like Mock Interviews, Group Discussions, Communication Skills workshops., etc, and it also organizes Public Sector Exam Training for students who are interested to join Government Sectors. It also invites HR Managers from different industries.
Many colleges have been successful in maintaining high placement statistics over the years and the fact that the students bear the recession blues with record-breaking placements itself is a testimony to the quality.
Importance of The Placement Cell
There are many career options across the country with the economy getting better and MNCs exploring the nation. Why, then, would someone need placement guidance?
The process of recruitment seems simple enough – study, graduate, apply, and get a job. Well, truth be told, it is much more difficult than this. There are plenty of work options, of course, but there is also a stringent competition to match the availability. Plus, many people lose out on jobs even though they are qualified because they do not have knowledge about how the system actually works.
In universities, students come from all walks of life. They come from different parts of the country including rural areas. Some individuals may not be aware of how things work. Some others may not be confident enough to walk into an interview even though they are skilled. These problems are more common than you can imagine, which is why a placement cell in the university is highly recommended.
Benefits of The Placement Cell
A placement cell usually consists of an entire panel that helps students during graduation. You can go to them and they will help you out with campus placement in college. Another advantage is that some placement cells will help you prepare you with tips to crack interviews. They will also give you tips on making an impressive HR resume so that you walk into an interview, prepared, and ready to face your potential employer.
The best part here is that companies will come to your campus without you having to knock on various doors for jobs. Companies pick different universities every year to visit and recruit on the spot. This makes things very easy for students because they don’t have to run around in circles. They can show what they’ve got on the campus itself and they will be recruited the companies like them. This benefit is what makes students choose universities based on the companies that have visited them in the past. Good companies visiting a campus is testimony that the university is a reputed one.
In Management colleges, the Placement Cell lays high importance on technical and non-technical pre-placement training, which prepares students to excel in both summer internships and in the final interviews of the recruitment processes. They also help students improve their academic scores through a series of programs, conferences, and workshops.
The Placement Process
Invitations along with the Recruitment Brochure and Recruitment Notice are sent to recruiters. After receiving the filled Recruitment Notice, the pre-placement talk dates are finalized in consultation with the company. The relevant information is then passed onto the students.
The dates are allotted to companies on a First come First serve basis and as per the schedule of student’s examinations and academic activities.
Companies are requested to inform the following:
The company is given the right to use student details according to company requirements. After the recruitment procedure on the allotted date, the companies announce the list of selected students to the Placement Cell. Companies are requested to provide the list of selected students to the Placement Cell preferably on the same day.
A Generic Placement Process Model
Orientation Conducted by The Placement Cell
The institute tries to study the individual aspirations and the aptitude of each student right from the start of any academic session. Many Senior Professionals from the industry and faculty members are invited to contribute towards the development of students. They are experts with a minimum of 15 years of work experience, excellent academic and professional skills, and are currently in leadership positions across their organizations. These committed and seasoned industry professionals from various domains embark upon orienting them to the actual operations and manpower requirements of different industries. They tell them the realistic expectations of the industry from young managers and how they should go about developing the required knowledge and skill.
Aptitude and Placement Training
The Placement Division of a college supports the students in shaping and managing their careers by building key ingredients required for a student to be a complete professional. They provide training on numerical ability, logical reasoning, data interpretation, problem-solving, and technical subject know-how helping organizations reach the right candidates and helping students identify development areas much in advance. These skills not only improve the chances of placements for students/graduates but also help in developing professional attributes for continuing and growing in the job. These are the skills, attitudes, and actions that enable professionals to get along with their fellow workers, reporting managers/supervisors, and to make informed decisions at crucial times.
The pre-placement talks are presentations organized by a prospective employer on the college campus. Over the years, they have become the primary forums for company-student interaction. These talks give the student a chance to learn more about the company, the work, and the work culture. The students can also learn about the opportunities for growth, learning, and advancement that the company offers. They can also form a first-hand impression of the company and can make an informed decision about applying for the placements.
Thus, we recommend that you check whether a university you are applying to, has a placement cell. If yes, check which companies have visited and recruited in the past. A thorough analysis will enable you to make a sound choice that will help secure your future. You can ask alumni as well if you are in doubt. They will be happy to guide you and let you know whether you are making the right decision.
